Stay
At Home Parenting vs. Financial Concerns
Congratulations
on becoming a parent! Now you look at
your bundle of joy and wonder what life
was like before your baby. You probably
check to see if the baby is breathing at
night. When you hold your baby, it
probably is difficult to imagine being
separated, but you are near the end of
your maternity leave and you must decide
between staying home or returning to the
work force.
I
remember when my oldest child was an
infant sleeping in his crib. I would
stare at him and feel overwhelmed and
overjoyed at his innocence and how
dependent he was on me, and my husband,
to fulfill his every need. I knew no one
would love my child or take care of him
the way my husband and I could. It was
important for me to stay home to take
care of our child. My husband and I
agreed that we would do everything we
could to raise our children. Although we
have had to endure some tough financial
times, we never regret our decision to
keep our children out of the care of
others. Only occasional babysitters,
aunts, uncles and grandparents have
cared for our children for short periods
of time.
If
you and your partner agree as my husband
and I agreed, the decision to stay home
or return to work is easy. But what
happens when you want to stay home and
you and your partner already had an
agreement that you would return to work?
