"How
can a parenting book help build the self esteem
of a child
without first building the self esteem of the
parents?"

Parenting
Someone Else's Child
Parenting
someone else's child has to be one of
the toughest challenges in parenting.
Throughout my years in grad school, all
therapists learn that biological parents
should discipline their child. For years
I told my clients to allow the birth
parent to do all the disciplining.
However, this created problems when the
birth parent was at work and the step
parent was home with the step child.
Many clients would express frustration
when their own children would receive
consequences but their step sibling would
not. The ideal world would have you,
your spouse and your spouses ex work as
a team to equally administer logical
consequences. Unfortunately we do not
live in an ideal world. So how can you
discipline a child who is not yours?
