"How
can a parenting book help build the self esteem
of a child
without first building the self esteem of the
parents?"

Discipline
Is Easier If You Start From Day One
Believe
it or not, you begin disciplining your
child from day one. A newborn's form of
communication is through crying. Crying
is your baby's way of telling you they
are hungry, need a new diaper, do not
feel well or would like your attention.
By responding to your baby's cries you
are reinforcing the baby's behavior. If
the baby's needs are not met the baby
will continue to cry.
You
have undoubtedly heard many experts on
the topic of sleeping. Some experts
advocate allowing your baby to cry until
they sleep; others advocate your baby
sleeping in your bed; and some will say
pick them up as soon as they cry. The
ultimate choice is yours. Whatever you
choose there will be consequences. You
and your partner are setting limits with
your baby. You are structuring how much
freedom your child will be given within
limits.
